What are Active Aligners and Retainers?

An active aligner is any treatment, such as Invisalign, that aims to straighten the teeth by using a series of clear aligners. A retainer is similar but has one key difference- a retainer keeps your teeth where they are supposed to be once treatment has concluded. Patients will typically wear their retainer full-time for the first 6 months after treatment, and then can switch to nights only after that.  However, patient’s teeth can sometimes shift positions slightly after treatment is completed due to a lack of wearing their retainer.

How it Works?

Using an iTero machine, our doctors can create a 3D model of your teeth to determine if you are suitable for Invisalign. If you’ve already completed orthodontic treatment and your teeth have shifted, a 3D model of your teeth can be used to create replacement retainers or to explore other options on how to get your perfect smile back.
